NATIONAL GARDEN CLUB, INC. (NGC) OBJECTIVES COVERED IN OUR CONTINUING PROJECTS
CONSERVATION: Litter control – CGC sponsors and participates in Cleanest City Contest and/or Keep Covington Beautiful activities; Water; Wildflower; Wildlife.
BIRD STUDY: Our members have bird feeders, hummingbird feeders and bird baths. We plant and preserve bird habitats and participate in bird count.
BUTTERFLY STUDY: Our members plant to attract butterflies.
GARDENING: Members plant to attract birds, hummers and butterflies by planting native plants. Members engage in some aspect of gardening and/or help in maintaining our Healing Garden that was established in 2000, Triangle Park in downtown Covington and Blue Star marker located at intersections of Highway 21 and Highway 36.
SCHOLARSHIP: 100% Participation in supporting a St. Tammany parish resident who will be a rising college junior majoring in the field of horticulture or related disciplines. Scholarship is valued at $500.00. Club Project since 1974.
TREE PLANTING: CGC plants trees in memory of deceased loved ones for Arbor Day.
SCHOOLS: CGC has several Members currently studying or have completed work in NGC Schools - Flower Show School, Gardening School, Landscape Design School, and Environmental School. To encourage member participation, LGCF District VI offers a grant to defer costs to any NGC Flower Show School, Gardening, Landscape Design, and Environmental Schools.
