New Projects 2021/2022
Northshore Food Bank: Our community outreach this year will again be the Northshore Food Bank (NFB). The NFB serves more than 375 individuals and families each week in St. Tammany and Washington Parishes. The food bank serves the needs of the most vulnerable in our community by providing food, clothing, and dental care. We plan a large food drive at Christmas and again in the Spring. In addition to our members’ contributions, Covington Garden Club’s monetary donation to the Northshore Food Bank is $200 per year. (Due to the effects of COVID-19 on our community with many people losing their jobs, the Covington Garden Club increased their total donation to the Northshore Food Bank to $300 per year). Chairpersons, CGC Board Members
Blue Star Memorial Highway Marker: The Covington Garden Club sponsored and dedicated this marker in May 2011. We will continue to maintain the garden of giant liriope installed in 2018 by keeping it weed free and mulched. The marker is located at the intersections of Highway 21 and Highway 36 in front of the St. Tammany Fire District No. 12, Covington, LA. Chairperson, Lynn DiVincent
The Healing Garden: We will continue to maintain The Healing Garden, established in 2000, by keeping it weed free and the trees and bushes trimmed and pruned. It is located at the foot of Columbia Street at the Columbia Street Landing in downtown Covington, LA. It is the site of outdoor concerts, weddings and many photography shoots among other things. Chairperson, Dawne Pflughoeft
Triangle Park: We will continue to maintain Triangle Park located in downtown Covington, LA next to the St. Tammany Trace on the corner of New Hampshire and East Lockwood Streets. We plan to refurbish some of the plants and get control of vines that have taken over the gardens in some areas. It is the site of outdoor concerts, art exhibits, antique shows and the farmers’ market, to name a few. Chairperson, Kyle Martin
